India wants to reduce post-harvest losses

India will set up a program to develop its agri-food industry sector (here, presentation conference).
About 40% of India's agricultural production is lost each year due to insufficient infrastructure. To reduce these estimated losses to 920 billion rupees (14.2 billion USD) the country announces an ambitious project, SAMPADA.
SAMPADA (Scheme for Agro-Marine Produce Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters) is a program that aims to develop large food processing units throughout the country.
SAMPADA should play a leading role in the development of the agri-food sector. Coming from the expansion of existing or planned chains of refrigeration, it will give a new impetus to the agro-food industry and thus reduce post-harvest losses.
