Peru and Panama seek to facilitate fruit trade with new FTA meeting

More than 590 Peruvian companies exported to Panama in 2024.
In 2024, Peru's exports to Panama totaled $611 million, a growth of 1.1% over the previous year, according to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur). The main products shipped were grapes, bananas and seeds, among others. A total of 594 Peruvian companies participated in this trade, covering 895 tariff subheadings.
In addition, the presidents of Peru and Panama agreed to hold soon the first meeting of the Free Trade Commission of the FTA in force since 2012. The objective is to review and update issues such as rules of origin and sanitary standards, and to improve the use of the agreement.
The regulations for the Re-Export Certificate, which will regulate the transit of products in the Colon Free Zone, were also finalized.
Since the entry into force of the FTA, trade between both countries has grown an average of 6% annually, accumulating more than 6,480 million dollars in exports, with 95% of the products free of tariffs.
