WAO is now working with 30 leading distributors in the UK and Europe, and supporting its retail partners to help raise consumer awareness. The aim is to further increase avocado consumption in Europe (Photo: facebook/AguacateFrutaDeLaVida).
WAO (World Avocado Organisation) has continued and strengthened its collaboration with retailers, with supermarkets in 12 countries and over 35,000 shops. As a result, WAO has tripled its support for the retail sector in the UK and Europe since 2021.
WAO now works with 30 leading distributors in the UK and Europe, and supports its retail partners to help raise consumer awareness directly at the point of sale (displays, billboards, banners, brochures, etc.) or online via retailers' websites (promotions, innovative recipes, etc.).
The aim is to further increase avocado consumption in Europe. Annual consumption in the UK stands at 1.5 kg per capita, well behind Denmark (3 kg per capita), Spain (2.5 kg per capita), France (2.2 kg per capita) and Sweden (1.9 kg per capita). A recent successful campaign in India proved that the country is a growth market for avocado consumption.
WAO (World Avocado Organization) represents the world's leading avocado producers, exporters and importers. A non-profit organisation, WAO was founded in 2016 and promotes the consumption of avocados on the basis of their nutritional value and recognised health benefits.
