Unexpected valuation of citrus peel, Spanish scientists were able to produce ethanol from the "waste" of the fruit juice industry.
Spanish scientists have produced ethanol out of citrus peel.
Researchers of UPCT (Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena) have developed a new system for ethanol production from citrus peel. The researchers were able to produce more than 70 liters of ethanol, a biofuel that can be used in combination with gasoline, from 1000 kg of orange, lemon, tangerine and grapefruit peels.
This raw material is considered excellent by scientists for the production of fuel. In addition, the acquisition cost is very low, because it is a "waste" for the fruit juice industry. Indeed, with 100 kg of oranges is obtained an average of 45 kg of juice and 55 kg of bark.
This new fuel "with citrus" has been the subject of a publication in the prestigious journal "Bioresource Technology", one of the largest at the international level in the field of energy and fuels.
