European threats to the citrus of South African
FJ
The EU could suspend its citrus imports from South Africa.
The declarations of the Ambassador of South Africa in Belgium concern the citrus sector. According to the ambassador, the EU plans the stop of its citrus imports from South Africa, after discovering spots CBS (citrus black spot) on certain lots of fruit. CBS affects the external appearance of the fruit.
For South Africa the measures taken by the EU are protectionist measures. A South African delegation arrived to Brussels to negotiate with EU officials. The EU is a major market for South Africa, receiving nearly 40% of exports of South African citrus.
