Scientists have discovered a link between fast foood and the worsening of disease in children and adolescents.
Eating fast food more than 3 times per week can be detrimental to children and adolescents with asthma, allergic rhinitis and eczema, according to a study published in the journal Thorax conducted by a team of scientists from the University of Auckland (NZ).
The study of 319,000 adolescents between 11 and 14 years and 180,000 children between 6 and 7 years, reveals that eating more than 3 meals of fast food per week increases the risk of asthma and severe allergies.
Increase in cases of severe asthma for 39% for adolescents and 19% for children.
By contrast, a balanced diet with fruits and vegetables leads to lower severe asthma in 14% of adolescents and 11% of children.
Scientists observe the correlation and statistical association between the facts. Further work is needed to explain the link between cause and effect.
