Very modern large-scale greenhouses, to increase production and exports but preserve water resources.
Better production and better water management, greenhouse crops have grown strongly in Iran and the Ministry of Agriculture plans to increase their area to 48 355 hectares within 10 years.
Iran has recorded 1,100 hectares of new greenhouses built in the last 11 months. At the end of March 2017 the area will reach 1,500 hectares of new greenhouses. Across the country, greenhouse areas reach more than 10 000 hectares, but Iran has only 0.3% of the world's greenhouses.
The objective now is to increase the area to 48,355 hectares over 10 years. The Ministry of Agriculture estimates that these greenhouses will save 10 billion cubic meters of water per year.
