This year the production of peaches and nectarines in Taiwan is expected to record a final volume down sharply compared to the previous campaign.
After typhoon damage in 2016, peach and nectarine production in Taiwan had reached 23,000 tonnes in 2017-18 and 22,506 tonnes in 2018-19. But this year, the longer and colder winter than usual had a negative impact on production. For the year 2019-20 production is estimated at only 17,000 tons.
Despite this projected decline in domestic production, peach and nectarine imports are expected to be stable at around 15,000 tonnes. Mostly from the United States (79% of imported volume). In 2018, Taiwan was the third largest export market for peaches and nectarines in the United States.
