Pears and Apples in Ukraine Market before Easter
Ukraine
Friday 13 April 2007
Williams variety from Argentina lost it's leadership due to little quantities available in the end of campaign. Prices reached 1,24 US$/kg level, unfortunately, too late, just for a few fruits left on the market. Break in arrivals from Argentine side stimulated sales of Packham and Anjou varieties on 1,28 US$/kg level and up. This situation effected Red Bartlett as well despite of some quality problems - every shipment has to be checked whereas Packham is just bought as standard product - pushing prices up to 1,17 US$/kg but the turn of this variety was the last. Eventually old crop Conference disappeared from the market which caused immediately importer's activity in this respect so in next week the situation would probably change. The preference for old crop apples was still kept in week 14. The leader was Granny Smith, sold on 1,51 US$/kg level. As well the same variety from southern hemisphere has been asked for - 1,62 US$/kg. Sales of Red varieties took place in some particular regions, Saint-Petersburg and Moscow were very quiet in respect of apples. From other hand, in week 15 no arrivals from southern hemisphere are seen which might push the market to be more active.
Polish Idared keeps on to be in demand. The situation is effected by some aberrations of importers, especially in Moscow, from standard 70+ fruits. As a result it could be found prices from 0,77 US$/kg to 0,90 US$ depends upon size of the fruits inside. Golden from Western Europe was not available in large quantities, hopefully, as the demand for this variety was not exaggerated at all. Chinese Fuji were sold on the same level - 1,23 US$/kg with satisfactory sales in the end of a season.
