Increase of the organic sector

Organic products are growing and the demand is constant in Turkey.

According to the Department of Agriculture's, total production of organic products was 331,361 tons at the end of 2010. The Ministry has identified 11 179 types of organic products in Turkey at the end of 2010. The progression is dramatically since 2002 when only 150 products were registered. During the same period, organic areas increased by over 110%.

Producers are mainly small farmers; the average organic farm is 3 hectares.
But the disadvantages of the agricultural sector, slightly mechanized and modernized, where few chemicals are used and which requires lot of labor, could be of benefit to further enhance organic production.
