China is strengthening commercial relationships with Chile

China is the first Asian destination for Chilean fruits, and the second most important market in the world, in terms of the volumes of fresh fruits delivered from Chile.
Last week, the President of ASOEX, Ronald Bown Fernández and the general manager of the entity, Miguel Canala-Echeverría met via zoom with the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese embassy, Ji Xiaofeng and the new Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of China in Chile, Niu Qingbao.
At the meeting, ASOEX informed the ambassador about the work that is being realized to deliver fruit to China, and expressed the interest in strengthening cooperation with the Chinese authorities at the national, local and provincial levels in regard to the importation of fresh Chilean fruits.
They also pointed out the strict procedures they are applying against Covid-19, defined by the industry, together with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Agricultural and Livestock Service.
Everything to protect the health of workers, the quality of Chilean fruits and the safety of consumers.
Xu Bu, the Ambassador, commented that China will continue to cooperate with Chile, so that both countries benefit. He explained that there is interest to start exports from China to Chile, as well as to accord the homologation of the health passport between the countries, which allows better security and fluidity in transit of people between countries.
In the 2019-2020 season, Chile supplied the world 2.537.079 tons of fresh fruits. They sent 632.544 tons to Asia, being China the main market, with a total of 462.534 tons and an increase of 2.92 %, compared to 2018-2019.
During the 2019-2020 campaign, Chile exported to China: cherries (44.8 % of the total fruit exported from Chile to China), table grapes (24.1 %), plums (12 %), nectarines (6.4 %), apples (3.3 %), blueberries (2.6 %), kiwifruits (2.1%), avocado (2 %), lemons (1.1 %). In addition, China received pears, clementines, oranges, mandarins, and grapefruits, which together represented 0.8 % of the total fruit supplied by Chile to China.
