More shipping transport involved in cherry export from Chile
VU
The port of San Antonio is in the middle of the cherry export season, a situation which brings logistical challenges for the reception of ships that will later transport the fruit to China.
In relation to this, the ships Seaspan Hamburg, Fleur N and Río Grande Express, which belong to the Hapag-Lloyd shipping company, joined the shipping schedule, counting 13 ships until January 2022. These ships will be loaded by 400 containers with cherries which will be mobilized at DP World San Antonio, according to the San Antonio Port Company.
The high volume of cherries exported from San Antonio to China means more shippings, services and greater demand for shifts at the terminals. According to the general manager of Puerto San Antonio, Luis Knaak, in coordination with the logistics actors, they are working to ensure that the season runs efficiently.
The volume to be exported by Chile is 72,367,963 boxes of cherries (5 kg), equivalent to 361,840 tons, according to the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile (Asoex). It is an increase of + 2.6% compared to the previous season.
