Riza Seyyar, the President of the Aegean Exporters of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Union, said that if in the next few weeks severe weather and frost will not jeopardize production, the cherry season in 2017 should be the best these last years.
With the opening of the Russian market on the one hand and the use of transport logistics adding a significant added value (this is the agreement with Turkish Airlines for scheduled cargo flights ) the President predicts that the cherry export figure of $ 200 million should be exceeded under normal conditions.
He added that Turkey is the world's largest producer of cherries, but that in terms of exports, it has remained the third largest producer in the world. Different activities to improve quality and delivery should bear fruit this season.
