Growth of + 34% in volume and + 60% in value for apple exports

Remarkable increases recorded over 9 months for Iranian apple exports. Iran is expected to reach a total volume of 1.3 million tonnes of expoerted apples this year.
According to the Minisitry of Agriculture, in the first 9 months of the current Iranian year (March 20-December 20,2020) the country exported 403,000 tonnes of apples worth $764 million. That is to say a growth of 34% in volume and 60% in value compared to the same period of the previous year.
Iranian apples went mainly to Iraq with 200,000 tonnes (or +39% compared to the previous year, Russia with 97,000 tonnes (or +840% increase), Afghanistan with 42,000 tonnes (or -46%) and the United Arab Emirates with 26,000 tonnes (+18.18%).
According to ministerial data, the areas in the country dedicated to apples cover 251,000 hectares. Total production is estimated at 4.12 million tonnes for the current iranian year (March 2020-21), an increase of 3% from the previous year. Iran exported over 750,000 tonnes of apple in the previous Iranian year (March 2019-20). This year apple exports are expected to reach 1.3 million tonnes.
