In the experimental fields Quibor of the National Agricultural Research Institute Lara state in Northern Venezuela, was carried out the processing of 108,000 kg of tomatoes from which farmers hope to get about 300 kg of high quality tomato seeds.
This process consisted of hand extraction, fermentation and drying of the tomato seeds.
With this quantity of seeds farmers hope to produce tomatoes on area of 2.074 hectares in whole country and in various rural regions.
Presently, in Venezuela is approximately sown 12.000 hectares of tomatoes, with seeds 100% imported what entails total dependancy of Venezuelan agriculture in this matter of foreign countries such as: USA, Netherlands, Canada and Israel.
