Red-fleshed apples achieve more recognition on world markets
VU
The season of Kissabel® Rouge apple begins in November in Italy, Germany and the U.S. This variety is known for its red flesh and peel and is notable for its crunchiness and amazing flavour.
According to Emmanuel de Lapparent, manager of the IFORED programme, the reddish-pink flesh has already caught cosumers' eyes. The next step is to introduce different flavours, from the refinement of the orange- and yellow-peel varieties to the intense taste of Rouge. The brand’s objective for 2025 is to position itself as the leader on the coloured-flesh variety market.
Today, Kissabel® producers from all over the world are at different stages, some have already begun marketing the fruit while others are at the phase of testing.
Fabio Zanesco, Sales and Marketing Manager of VIP, commented that Kissabel® Rouge has comfortably set among the mountains with an Alpine and Mediterranean climate that has perfectly coloured the apples both on the inside and the outside. Medium-small size apples will arrive on the market in November-December with greater total volumes compared with last year.
Marco Rivoira from Rivoira highlighted that they are at the test phase both in Spain and Italy, and 25 hectares will be planted in 2022.
Brianna Shales, Marketing Director of Stemlit Growers, member of NBT, stated that at the moment they are still testing and discovering the best regions for cultivating Kissabel® apples in Washington state. They will carry out tastings both in stores and at trade shows this month with the objective to market the apples to North American retailers in the next couple of years.
Alessia Marquart, Marketing Manager of Red Apple Germany, remarked that in the next few years they plan to increase their sales volumes tenfold in order to satisfy domestic and international demand.
