The Mexican state of Tamaulipas predicts that orange production will decline by 250,000 tons.
The Mexican state of Tamaulipas, like its American neighbour Texas, has been hit by a drought that will cause a significant reduction in the production of oranges.
The drought that began in October 2010 is unprecedented and producers expect a poor harvest, the worst in living memory.
The organization Unión Regional Agrícola Citricultores of production forecasts a 250,000 ton decline. A harvest of 350,000 tons of oranges is expected when the state of Tamulipas produces about 600,000 tons of oranges each year.
