In Morocco, the soft fruit sector has seen significant growth: the area under cultivation has increased from 2,680 hectares in 2008 to 12,155 hectares in 2023, and production has risen from 107,000 tonnes to 272,000 tonnes (Photo: agrimaroc.ma).
The Minister of Agriculture presided over the official opening of the International Festival of Red Fruits, held in Kenitra from June 07 to 11. More than 120,000 visitors are expected to attend this 4th edition.
The event aims to contribute to the development and modernization of the red fruit sector, promote investment, exchange experience and expertise, develop partnerships and learn about new technologies to boost productivity and quality.
In Morocco, the soft fruit sector has seen significant growth in recent years: the area under cultivation has increased from 2,680 hectares in 2008 to 12,155 hectares in 2023, and production has risen from 107,000 tonnes to 272,000 tonnes. In the 2021-22 season, total soft fruit exports (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries) reached over 218,000 tonnes.
The province of Kénitra is the largest soft fruit production area in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, with a surface area of around 5,720 hectares (2022-2023 season), and a total soft fruit production of around 149,000 tonnes per year.
