Sunday 14 September 2008
The United Nations have declared 2008 the International Year of the Potato. This has for purpose to increase potato harvesting throughout the world, and especially in developping countries such as those in Africa. Potatoes are an interesting vegetable since they can adapt to any climate and need little water to grow.
As its consumption decreases in Europe, the United Nations declare that potatoes will have a large role in reducing world poverty and hunger. In the past 40 years, potato consumption has more than doubled in developping countries.
