Agricoper : new varieties and new brand
It was during the DOGK in Düsseldorf ( Deutschen Obst & Gemüse Kongresses , the German Congress of Fruits & Vegetables ) that the Italian company Agricoper , one of the sponsors of the event, presented its novelties.
German professionals in attendance were able to taste new varieties of table grapes, seedless , " Cotton Candy ", white grape flavor reminiscent of cotton candy, and "Sweet Celebration" , red grapes, very crispy . The Italian company also introduced its new brand " Lavinia ."
These new varieties presented confirms research by constant innovations of Agricoper . Each year, the company is testing many varieties (just over 60 currently in its experimental field) and has established a process of continuous selection .
The first step is to choose the most appropriate to the terrain and climate varieties according to their productivity. Then, in step 2 the selected varieties are located on a test plot ( 1-2 hectares per variety) . Then comes the step 3, the large-scale propagation ( 10 to 20 hectares). The process is long (about 8 years) and very selective : only 10 varieties of 70 flights will pass successfully through the different stages and into production.
