Pomegranate farm to open in desert

The Territory's first pomegranate farm is set to open in the community of Ali Curung.
The farm's main crop will be watermelons and a major grower from New South Wales has been brought in to run operations.
Paul McLaughlin runs one of New South Wales largest melon farms and says Ali Curung residents will be offered jobs on the new venture.
He says the Central Desert has ideal conditions for growing the fruit.
"There's good soil and there's water here and we've got that 32 week harvest window which is a good thing.
"Also, we're looking at growing pomegranates. They'll come in eight weeks before our pomegranates in New South Wales which gives us a longer harvest window."
