The medical services of agriculture in Chile detected the presence of a bacterial infection of kiwifruit.
The Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG) has detected the presence of Pseudomonas syringae pathovar actinidiae (Actnidia deliciosa) in four orchards of the O'Higgins and Maule regions.
SAG has set up an emergency plan to fight against the pest in addition to strict phytosanitary control. SAG is working closely with the Committee of Kiwi, laboratories and universities to ensure the technical reliability of the results and standardize procedures.
