The United States market has almost doubled (+ 87.4% in volume and + 99.9% in value) its demand for mangoes from Vietnam. Vietnamese professionals believe that the potential is enormous to expand their market share.
In the first 8 months of 2020, Vietnam exported 1,350 tons of mangoes worth $2.8 million to the US market, an increase of 87.4% in volume and 99.9% in value .
According to USDA data, the United States Department of Agriculture, in the first 8 months of 2020, the United States imported more than 497,000 tons of mangoes worth $567 million. That is an increase of 14.7% in volume and 15% in value compared to the same period in 2019.
During this period, Vietnam was the 12th largest supplier of mangoes to the United States. In terms of volume, mangoes from Vietnam accounted for only 0.3% of the total mangoes imported into the United States market. The potential is therefore enormous, according to Vietnamese professionals, to further expand their market share in the United States.
This boom recorded in exports to the United States makes professionals in the mango sector a little more optimistic. The sector seems to be one of the few to continue to record positive results. Mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam recorded a 19.1% drop in the value of its fruit exports in the first 9 months of the year. The turnover of exports of lychees, durians and bananas decreased.
