74 Mexican municipalities free of avocado pit pests

The 45 municipalities in Michoacán, 12 in Jalisco, 5 in Morelos, 5 in Nayarit, 3 in Puebla, 3 in the State of Mexico and one municipality in Guerrero, confirmed that they are free of pests that represent a danger to avocado production, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader). These are the small avocado pit borer, the large borer and the borer moth.

 

Michoacán is the main avocado producer in Mexico, with a production of more than 1.8 million tons per year, which constitutes 74% of the national production. Followed by Jalisco, with 256,000 tons; State of Mexico, with 123,000 tons; Nayarit, with 75,000; Morelos, 52,000; Guerrero, 21,000 and Puebla, 18,000 tons.
