Higher price for onion
United Kingdom
Tuesday 30 January 2007
The British Onion Producer's Association warned that the quality of the onions after a poor harvest, in 2007 won't be so good as in the past season. According to the present data, the BOPA expects a 15% drop of the onions production this year, compared to 2005. The main causes of this fall are an unstable weather in July and a wet August. All this means that onions will be smaller in size and many more onions will have defected skin. The price of onion offered in supermarkets is 60% higher while the price of onion sold to manufacturers and wholesalers was doubled.
