Auchan has further plans for expansion in 2009 which will include the opening of six new hypermarkets in Russia.
The current Auchan estate in Russia numbers 33 stores, which are all within major cities. The new sites are located in Omsk, Samara, St. Petersburg, and Moscow.
The supermarkets will average 13,000 square meters and carry the standard Auchan range.
Auchan currently produces 640 items under its own brand, which in 2008 represented around 10% of the chain's total sales. Prices for own brand products are kept at 15-30% below the average branded equivalent.
According to a company spokesperson, 70% of Auchan products are manufactured in Russia.
