Bangladesh and Pakistan are exploring opportunities to boost trade in dates, oranges, and other fruits, especially to meet the high demand during Ramadan and throughout the year. A meeting in Dhaka's Gulshan area, involving the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and a Pakistani business delegation, highlighted the need to strengthen trade ties.
Md Hafizur Rahman, chairman of the session, emphasized Pakistan as a reliable source for fruits, particularly dates, which see peak demand during Ramadan. Discussions included the potential to export Bangladeshi goods to Pakistan and removing tariff and non-tariff barriers to facilitate smoother trade.
Participants stressed the importance of improving logistics, supply chains, cold storage, and transportation to support bilateral trade. The meeting also called for finalizing a trade agreement between the two countries.
Notable attendees included Zain Aziz, trade and investment attaché of the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka, and Md Zafar Iqbal from FBCCI. Representatives from the Bangladesh Fresh Fruits Importers Association also joined, reflecting strong private-sector interest in strengthening ties between the two nations.
