Production of potatoes increased by 20%

Outstanding performance for the Italian production of potatoes.

According to preliminary reports ISMEA - UNAPA , domestic production this year reached 1.5 million tons of which 300,000 new potatoes. This represents an overall increase of 20% compared to the previous year.This increase in production is due to both an increase in investments in the sector (for 8 to 10%) but mainly to a sharp increase in yields per hectare , especially in Sicily.

Regarding prices: the levels were considered good until March / April, but then with the entry of imported products, the decline was serious. The Russian embargo and estimates of European production increased ( + 10 % forecast ) raise the specter that this situation will continue.
