Between 176 selected projects, the first prize had been awarded to Levent Yurdaer Aydemir from food engineering section of the Institute of High Technology of Izmir for its project aiming to transform the hazelnut cake shells to food, cosmetics and medical products.
During this day, the emphasis was placed on the necessity to innovate in order to develop the food sector. The Chairman of the Board of Research and Food Development of TIM affirmed that even if only 2 percent of the proposed projects are implemented, this would represent an undeniable added value for the sector. "
Turkish food companies spend an average of only 1 percent of their revenues to research and development, and Turkey is set as a goal to reach progressively to 3 percent until 2023.
