Prices of oranges and lemons in Russian market in the beginning of May
Russia
Thursday 10 May 2007
The improvement of the situation didn't last too long. As soon as importers give a try to go up with prices the market slows itself down. As a result prices for Moroccan Valencias were the same : 0,64 - 0,84 US$/kg. Regions are full of this fruit as well as stocks in Saint-Petersburg. For next week even larger deliveries are expected thus, the situation doesn't look optimistic. In the south the importers were not in a hurry to sell out their stocks of Egyptian Valencias as further arrivals are not seen apart from some Morocco destined to Novorossijsk. As a result price went even up - 0,79 US$/kg for little sizes and 0,87 US$/kg for all calibers mixed. In the meantime first offers of Navels from Southern Hemisphere are already heard but this stuff is not yet on the market.
Almost nothing arrived last week (600 pallets only!) so even bad quality stuff was in demand but not in supermarkets. They are served till so far with Spanish lemons as Argentina couldn't provide up to now acceptable quality level. In the beginning of the week price for Argentine lemon was on the level of 1,32 US$/kg, later it increased to 1,38 US$/kg. Last days of week traders were ready to pay 1,50 US$/kg but stuff was sold out as quality was bad for storage. Spanish lemon is still the most popular in Russian market.
