The fruit production of Aragon (Spain) in a regular year generates about 327 million euros, reaching almost 600.000 tons.
This year's stone fruit season in Aragon will decrease by 80% in volume, according to local media. Among the reasons, the war in Ukraine, the increase in prices and climate change, with some frosts in April that were unusual.
The cherry is a fruit that stands out within the Aragonese offer, constituting 41% of the total produced in the country (41.540 tons). Its production is developed in an area of 9.100 hectares, which represents almost a third of the national production.

100% of the cherry in the Albalate area is without protection measures. In Ricla it can reach 60%, and 50% in Mequinenza. The numbers are worrying because cherry production provides income for many growers and packers.
Despite the drop in volume and economic losses, which are estimated at around 200 million euros and will not be covered by insurance, 80% of workers will be unemployed.
