Prices for potato, lemon, and avocado to increase in 2022

The statistical analysis presented by the National Alliance of Small Merchants of Mexico (ANPEC) showed a considerable increase in the products most requested by the Mexican consumer during the last year. Among them, avocado, lemon, potato and sea proteins stand out.
The rise in the price of these and other products is due to several factors, such as the effects caused by the pandemic and Mexico's economic and commercial dependence on the US.
The consequences of the pandemic hit product prices sharply, with a rise of 36 percent being registered in the campaign 2020/21. In 2021/22, prices increased by a further 13%.
According to ANPEC, the price of avocado in 2021-22 increased by 30% compared to last year, that of lemon - by 48.91%, of potatoes - by 15%, while the price of tomatoes fell by 34.31%.
From the Alliance they warn that in 2022, this price inflation will continue to increase, and they recommend that Mexican buyers look for more accessible alternatives, and have good financial management.
