Chilean stone fruit export season closes with lower volume and higher income
VU
Chilean stone fruit export season 2022/23 ended with an 11% decrease in the total volume exported, compared to the previous season, according to ASOEX. However, the income from these supplies increased by 19%, reaching $409 million, with some adjustments still pending.
According to Ivan Marambio, the President of ASOEX, this year's result is the highest achieved by Chilean stone fruits in recent times, surpassing the previous record set in the 2020/21 season by 14%.
The decline in volume can be attributed to several factors. The main reason was that the Japanese plum exports decreased by 19% totaling 79,000 tons, due to a decrease in planted hectares. Additionally, this season was negatively impacted by reduced fruit set resulting from adverse weather conditions, including a slight frost and rain that affected the total exportable volume.
The situation was different for nectarines. Although their volume decreased by 5% totaling 81,000 tons, it was the second-highest volume season in the history of this fruit.
European plum shipments closed with a 3% lower volume, reaching 58,000 tons. Once again, China was the main destination for these species, receiving 99% of the shipments.
Peach exports totaled nearly 23,000 tons, decreasing by 15% compared to the previous season.
