Stable estimates for the year 2013

The contact group on strawberry, consisting of French, Spanish and Italian growers, met in Salerno in Italy, indicating production forecasts thanks to the information collected.

The group plans a campaign in 2013 similar to that of 2012 for Spain and Italy; France is expected to show a slight increase in production.

Regarding surfaces, the Spanish growers consider them similar to 2012 (6.830 acres), as well as Italian growers (3,682 hectares), while only the French growers expected to increase by 15%.

If the surface appears to be stabilizing in these three countries, the group noted the sharp rise in other European countries, especially Germany, where the areas of strawberries reached 13,848 hectares in 2011.
