Strong European demand boosted Egyptian exports

Growing European demand has led to strong growth in exports from Egypt. Some Egyptian products have recorded growth rates of up to + 30%.
 
 
 
In Europe, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a strong demand for fruits and vegetables. Egyptian exports have registered remarkable growth rates. Exports of grapes, garlic, strawberries, pomegranates and beans increased by 30% in 2020, year on year according to Ahmed al-Attar of the Ministry of Agriculture (Central Administration for Plan Quarantine ).
 
 
 
The European Union was the largest importer of Egyptian agricultural exports between September 2019 and June 2020 representing 971,000 tonnes for a value of $694 million according to General Organization for Import and Export Control.
