This is a proof of the price distortion in the Country from the field to vendors. Italy’s fruit actually increase by an average 200% before reaching Italian consumers.
“The difference of the price in Germany - Coldiretti underlines - is between 10 and 15% despite transport costs influence by around 30% the retail price of fruit and vegetables”. Coldiretti reminds that, according a recent Antitrust survey, consumer prices applied by retail chains in the fruit&vegetable segment are significantly higher than those in corner markets or by street vendors. Charges in the supply chain therefore vary between 77 and 294%, depending on the numbers of transfers.
“There is a large gap that can be improved between price at fields and consumer prices to guarantee adequate profit to agricultural companies and cheap purchase to consumers”, Coldiretti concludes.
