2011 Quarter 1, Chilean fruit exports increase in volume but decrease in value

In quarter 1 of 2011, Chilian Fresh fruit export hace increased by 13.3% in volume to 1.309.666 tons.
Best volume increases have been registered in cherries, with an impressive + 58,6% and blueberries: +33,4%. Mores cultivated areas together with good weather conditions explain these results.
Then, volumes of plums have increased by 32,3%, apples:+19,9%, nectarines: +13,1%, peaches: +10% , grapes: + 4,0%.
In value, exports have decreased by 13,9% to level down to US $ 1.662 (€ 1.150 millions),in comparison with same period last year.

Grapes decreased by : - 19,4% to US $ 842 millions
plums down by 10,7% to US $ 91 millions
However, better trend for apples with an increase in value: + 8,7% to US $ 150 millions, kiwis: + 13% to US $ 20 millions , oranges: + 172% to US $ 14 millions.
