Chinese strawberry on market in the end of April 2009
China
Tuesday 28 April 2009
Initial indications are that there should be no issues with the strawberry crop.
Harvesting is taking place of greenhouse grown produce which is destined for the fresh markets with the first open field crop, All Star, being picked early May, weather permitting.
The frosts which hit the Weifang area of the country have not proved to be too serious, the intial speculation was that this may have reduced the crop significantly but now seems the rumours were unfounded.
No prices are being speculated as yet but there are significant stocks of 2008 crop still to move, mainly American 13 and Honyeye, which may impact on how the prices are set during the initial pick.
Chinese suppliers will be in a postion to offer goods around 2nd-3rd week in May.
