The first harvest of the FRED® pear reported successful
The members of Origine Group have successfully completed the first Italian harvest of the FRED® pear. This new variety is cultivated in Italy and is also known as a blushed pear.
FRED® stands out for early entry into production, low sensitivity to fire blight, high productivity and excellent tolerance to brown spotting.
In 2021, the resistance to brown spotting was attested by Dr. Marina Collina (the University of Bologna), and later has also been confirmed in the field.
The harvested fruits have good size, shape, and an excellent sugar content. FRED® is also characterized by crunchy and yet juicy texture, and delicate sweetness and aroma.
This year's harvest amounted to some dozens of tons, but in the next few years recently planted trees will enter into production, thus increasing commercial volumes rapidly.
