Mexico exports its lemons to 28 countries, but the main destination is the United States.
With production going from 711,000 tonnes to more than 1,300,000 tonnes in the last 3 years, the state of Michoacán is Mexico's leading producer of lemons.
SEDRUA (Secretaría de Desarrollo Rural y Agroalimentario) of the state of Michoacán indicated that the state had 64,000 hectares of citrus cultivated. Lemon production has risen from 711,000 tonnes to more than 1,300,000 tonnes in the last 3 years.
SEDRUA said Mexico is the second largest producer of lemons with more than 2.5 million tonnes, behind India, which produces nearly 3 million tonnes. The main destination for lemons exports is the United States, which purchased more than 655,000 tonnes in 2017.
