According to Nevine Gamea, the Minister of Trade and Industry of Egypt, on February 8, the first shipments of Egyptian oranges were dispatched to Brazil.
Gamea emphasized that this is a result of the free trade agreement signed between Egypt and Mercosur countries, which represents a high importance in opening new destinations for Egyptian produce, especially in South America.
Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay are among other countries that are part of the Mercosur area.
Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry for Economic Affairs, Ibrahim Al-Sigini, commented that a Brazilian delegation visited Cairo in 2020, in order to negotiate the final import of Egyptian citrus fruits to its markets. During their visit they have participated in a series of meetings with Egyptian exporters and entrepreneurs, organized in cooperation with the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in São Paulo and the Brazilian Embassy in Cairo.
According to Al-Sigini, Egyptian oranges are highly evaluated by Brazilian importers, due to the high quality of the product and competitive prices. Brazilian market is the largest South American market, with about 209 million consumers.
