Extraordinary increase in the value of Peruvian physalis exports.

" Sierra Exportadora " announces that the value of physalis exports increased from 160 000 USD in 2010 to USD 1.6 million in 2014. An increase of 1000 %!

Over 50% of these exports are shipped to the United States and Germany , where demand remains strong and growing.

The fruit, known as the " Cherry of Peru" , is native to the Andes and was rediscovered after 500 years of oblivion . It was already part of the Inca diet. It belongs to the family " solanacea " aswell as potatoes , tomatoes , peppers and chilli.
