New traffic record for the Port of Barcelona that will showcase its attractiveness to Fruit Attraction 2018

Once again exhibiting at FRUIT ATTRACTION (Hall 8.8B01), the port of Barcelona will be able to demonstrate its dynamism and attractiveness. Between January and August 2018, the port of Barcelona recorded a total traffic of 45.9 million tons, an increase of 14% compared to the same period last year.

 

 

 

The dynamism of container traffic has largely contributed to this result. During the first 8 months of the year, the Catalan port recorded a total of 2.2 million TEUs (one TEU equals a 20-foot container), with an identical growth (14%) to that of the traffic total. Transhipment containers (those that are unloaded and then reloaded to their final destination) experienced the most notable increase (+ 32%). Containerized freight from foreign trade has progressed at a good pace. In the case of exports, the port of Barcelona has transported more than 497,000 TEU, or 6.3% more than the previous year.

 

 

 

The markets that have made the most progress in their dealings with the Port of Barcelona stand out for their geographical diversity: Algeria (+ 48%), United States (+ 12%), India (+ 7.7%), Mexico (+ 12%) and Vietnam (+ 27%). This last country will be the destination of the trade mission that the Port of Barcelona will lead next November.
