The onion exports to Indonesia will restart
FJ
Planned resumption for Dutch onion exports to Indonesia.
New agreement between the Netherlands and Indonesia following a trade mission led by the Dutch Minister of Agriculture. The two countries have taken steps towards a common approach to food security and agreed that the export of onions to Indonesia can be restarted.
The Netherlands will be able to resume the export of onions in 2014. The potential for export to Indonesia is estimated at over 100,000 tons, about 35 million euros in value.
Since 2012 Indonesia had established phytosanitary measures to prevent the spread and transmission of insects and harmful fungi to plants which had to stop imports.
This agreement is considered of vital importance for the 2 countries. For Indonesia, the Netherlands is the gateway to European markets for agricultural products and the onion is an essential product for the country because it is one of the main ingredients in many dishes. For producers of the Netherlands, the re-opening of this market is a major event.
