According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Turkey did not experience any disruption in the food supply during the coronavirus pandemic.
Thanks to the precautionary measures taken almost a month before the coronavirus pandemic reached Turkey. The measures were stepped up in mid-March, when the first cases of coronavirus appeared. Strict surveillance has been put in place for production and export. Farmers have received mobility permits to support agricultural production.
Turkey has also stepped up diplomatic contacts with countries in the Far East to open export channels for agricultural products, said the Turkish Minister for Trade.
Turkey recently received authorization from Thailand to export apples. Applications have been made to the Thai authorities for the export of potatoes, cherries, grapes, pears, strawberries and tangerines. Other requests to the Japanese authorities concern the exports of strawberries, oranges and mandarins.
