Extreme weather conditions, with a cold snap in spring followed by drought in some places and an early summer marked by various unfavorable phenomena, had an impact on agricultural production in Poland.
According to forecasts made by GUS (Główny Urząd Statystyczny), the Polish statistical office, the 2021 production of orchard fruits is estimated at more than 4.0 million tonnes, or + 3.3% compared to 2020. Production of cherries should total 165,000 tonnes, or + 8% compared to 2020. The apple harvest should reach 3.6 million tonnes, or + 2.8% compared to 2020. The pear harvest should reach around 57,000 tonnes, or + 1% compared to 2020. The plum harvest should reach around 110,000 tonnes, or + 10% compared to 2020.
Regarding 2021 berry production: The 2021 strawberry production should total around 177,000 tonnes, or + 21% compared to 2020; the production of currants around 150,000 tonnes, ie + 4%; blackcurrant production around 111,000 tonnes, i.e. + 1% and raspberry production around 120,000 tonnes, i.e. a volume similar to that in 2020.
The 2021 production of vegetables is estimated at 3.9 million tonnes, or -2% compared to 2020. The weather conditions have had an impact on field production and explain this slight decline. Cabbage production is expected to exceed 700,000 tonnes, onion production 630,000 tonnes, tomato production 160,000 tonnes, cucumber production 120,000 tonnes. The production of other plant species, including pumpkin, celery and broccoli, is estimated at over 1.2 million tonnes.
