September is the month when the fruit export season in Brazil starts. Today, this country remains one of the major global exporters of papaya, pineapple, lime, mango, melon, and watermelon, among others.

According to the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Derivatives (Abrafrutas), fruit exports will reduce by around 15% this year.

According to Luiz Roberto Barcelos, Institutional Director of Abrafrutas, in the post-pandemic scenario, the lower export volumes are expected because production costs are very high, and added that maritime freight costs are negatively impacting the industry.

According to foreign trade specialist Augusto Fernandes, the war between Russia and Ukraine also affected fruit exports, in addition to the pandemic and post-pandemic period.
