The production of blueberries has suffered enormous damage that will greatly disrupt exports.
Weather conditions have strongly affected the production of blueberries and UPEFRUY (Unión de Productores y Exportadores Frutihortícolas del Uruguay) estimates that 60% of export volumes are lost.
Torrential rains, storms, thunderstorms and hail affected the producing areas of Salto and Paysandú.
The losses could total 1.5 million kilos out of the estimated 2.4 million kilograms estimated at the beginning of the harvest. Only 650,000 kilos had already been exported.
