Professionals from Spain, France and Italy, believe that the season will see stable volumes and a good quality in the three countries.
The Spanish-French-Italian contact group, composed of strawberry producers from Spain, France and Italy predicts stable volumes and a good quality in the three countries for the season.
The group that met in Huelva estimated that the volumes will be similar to last year. In 2011 production in Spain amounted to 261,000 tons, including 252,000 in the region of Huelva.
Production in Italy totaled 153,875 tons and 46,557 tons in France.
The consequences of the agreement between the EU and Morocco were also looked at and the group stressed the need to control quotas. The next meeting will be held in Paris to discuss backup procedures at a European level.
