8.48% increase in the area of potatoes in the Flanders region.
In Belgium, the area of potatoes in the Flanders region grew by 8.4% this year. Adding those from the Wallonia region, the potatoes area in Belgium is close to 100,000 hectares.
In the Flanders region, the potatoes area (consumption and seeds) has increased from 49,954 hectares in 2018 to 54,165 hectares this year, according to recent estimates. This is an increase of 8.48%.
Data concerning the Wallonia region are not yet known, but the area occupied 43,500 hectares according to the latest estimate.
In 2018 Belgium had 86,506 hectares (Fiwap figures) and this year 97,665 hectares.
